Vedanta appoints Rajiv Kumar as the CEO of its aluminium business

In a regulatory filing, Vedanta announced the appointment of Rajiv Kumar as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its aluminum business. Effective from March 26, 2025, the appointment was decided by the company’s board of directors earlier in the day.

“We wish to inform you that the Board of Directors, at its meeting held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, has inter alia considered and approved [the] appointment of Mr. Rajiv Kumar as CEO – Aluminium Business and designating him as Senior Management Personnel (SMP) at Vedanta Limited effective March 26, 2025,” Vedanta said in a regulatory filing.

The appointment of Kumar as the new CEO has been approved for the next three years. “He [Kumar] will lead the overall strategy for the aluminum business, including an effective demerger approach for maximizing value, development of strategic alliances to fast-track business delivery and marketing and ESG,” Vedanta added,

Kumar has over three decades of experience in the steel and mining industry. He previously worked for Tata Steel as the Vice President of Operation for the Kalinganagar Division. An advocate of “best-in-class technologies,” he will oversee the adoption of the latest technological tools in Vedanta’s operations in order to further innovation and digitalization for business transformation.

A graduate of Birsa Institute of Technology, Sindri, Kumar holds a metallurgical engineering degree. Well-versed in the ins and outs of the mining industry, Kumar has helped launch over 200 projects and has extensive leadership experience.
