Imarticus Learning, a well-known upskilling firm, has acquired learning platforms MyCaptain in a ₹50 crore cash-and-stock deal.
With this move, MyCaptain has become the fourth company to be acquired by Imarticus in the last four years. The company’s other acquisitions include Eckovation in July 2021, StratOnBoard in February 2022, and Hero Mindmine in April 2023.
MyCaptain is prevalent across 1,500 campuses, with over 60% of its customer base hailing from tier II and III cities. Presently, 80% of MyCaptain’s users are a part of creative and entrepreneurial fields. As such, the company’s acquisition aligns with Imarticus’ goal to create a stronger presence in tier II and III cities, along with reaching 5 million learners over the next three years.
“While previous acquisitions have helped us diversify our portfolio and address evolving learner needs, with MyCaptain, we aim to deepen accessibility in non-tech career domains and significantly expand our reach in tier 2+ cities,” said Nikhil Barshikar, Founder and CEO of Imarticus Learning.
Thanks to MyCaptain, Imarticus has now gained a foothold in the college skilling space. The company plans on extending its offerings to an offline format through 20+ classroom centres in over 16 cities, using MyCaptain’s employability boot camps that focus on digital marketing, design, and content skills.
“With Imarticus’ scale and Nikhil and Sonya’s shared belief in our mission, we now have the chance to take everything we have built and scale it even further, making new-age careers more accessible and achievable for more than 1 million students across India,” added Mohammed Zeeshan, Co-founder and CEO of MyCaptain, mentioning the involvement of Barshikar and Sonya Hooja [Co-Founder and Director at Imarticus Learning] in the process.
Absorbing MyCaptain’s 250 employees into its workforce, Imarticus Learning now employs over 850 people. Over the next three years, the company aims to expand MyCaptain’s scale by over five times using its expertise in digital marketing.
